Callantsoog is a beautiful seaside resort located in the head of North Holland, directly on the North Sea. The seaside resort has a beautiful wide & clean sandy beach with a blue flag. There are no less than six beach pavilions, each with its own atmosphere and kitchen. The cozy center of Callantsoog is located directly behind the dunes. On the Dorpsplein there is often something fun to do such as the Easter market on Easter Monday, the music festival Oog op Pop and the village fair in the summer. There are plenty of restaurants where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are also all kinds of boutique shops where you can shop or look for a nice souvenir.
Active in nature
Opposite the B&B is nature reserve 'Het Kooibos' where you can walk beautifully. There are special plants to be found and in season a walk under the guidance of a guide is possible every Wednesday morning.
The nearby Swan Water Nature Reserve is also definitely worth a visit. More than 120 endangered plant and animal species live here. It is an important place for migratory birds. You can also find beautiful butterflies, the sand lizard and wild orchids. The area borders dune and sea, is managed by Natuurmonumenten and has been declared a quiet area. It is (partly) accessible to the public. There are two hiking routes, 1 of 2.5 km and 1 of 5 km. Also through nature reserve De Zandpolder and Nollenland van Abbestede you can walk beautiful routes and enjoy the North Holland polder landscape. In spring, the region is full of colorful bulb fields.
You can cycle from Callantsoog via the cycle path through the dunes both further south and further north. So you are soon in Julianadorp & Den Helder, where you can also visit, for example, The Marine Museum and The Rescue Museum. Recreation area De Helderse Vallei is also recommended for a nice walk. History can be found at Fort Kijkduin and Willemsoord. If you go north from Callantsoog you also cycle a beautiful route via Petten and Sint Maartenszee to Camperduin, Groet and Schoorl. Along the way there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the view or go somewhere for a cup of coffee.
